Default USB 2.0 is really, really slow.

USB 2.0 is the bottleneck. Any device you plug into it will be slow for file transfer.

Pogo Plug is cool, because it's easy and convenient. I assume it'd be slow too, but for occasional backup, and remote file access it'd be fast enough.

I just went ahead and built a machine out of spare parts and put linux on it, but that's not convenient. I can (and do) plug USB drives into it, but they are still slow.
